5 Months

Ellie is 5 months old today!  How did that happen?  Where's the pause button on this thing!?!

It seems like every day there's something new.  These days Ellie smiles all the time, is laughing more and starting to reach out for things - toys, our faces, and especially my hair.  She's rolling from tummy to back and almost looks like she wants to roll from back to tummy.  She's also talking - of course they're just gurgles and coos, but each one makes my heart melt.

Ellie "talking":

Today Ellie had a visit from Maggie, her home health nurse (through a program for premature babies) who comes every few months, weighs and measures Ellie, and checks her cognitive development.  Today Ellie weighed in at 10 pounds, 5 ounces.  We've hit double digits - finally!  She's in the 5th percentile for weight.  I keep telling myself someone's child has to be below the 10th percentile, it just happens to be mine, but look at Brian and I; we were never going to have a heavyweight.  Her length is 23 1/4 inches (50th percentile) and her head circumference is 39.5 cm (25th percentile).  She's as much of a peanut now as the day she was born, but she's in many ways ahead of the curve developmentally.  Maggie was very pleased overall and said in many ways, you would never be able to tell she was early.

The best thing of all though?  She's starting to hum when she nurses, which is something I did when I was a baby, and last night she hummed herself to sleep.  She is totally my child.
